This annual bike ride, now in its seventh year, is all about raising funds for The Children’s Leukaemia and Cancer Research Foundation, which is Perth based, situated in The Telethon Institute. Last year, 2009, the ride raised a record of $77,000 for the Foundation. How? By riders getting sponsorships to raise money for their ride, or any other lawful means they can think of!
This year the Bike Trek will start in Mandurah, on Monday October 17th.
For the ride south, we will take 6 days, in daily stages, to reach Augusta. Meals, accommodation and hospitality will be held by many Rotary and Lions Clubs throughout the South, which will make for a memorable ride.
The ride is not a race, its a FUNDRAISER, but still an average level of fitness is required in order to ride. The average speed will be approximately 20 km/hr.
Monday the 17th we ride to Fairbridge by roundabout route, Tuesday 18th to Harvey, Wednesday 19th to Bunbury, Thursday 20st to Busselton, Friday 21st to Margaret River and Saturday 22nd we finish in Augusta.
Getting home may pose problems for some. If you intend to do it, remember this, and look at ways to help yourself. There may be support vehicles returning to Harvey, probably on the Sunday. Accommodation and meals will be provided at Augusta on the Saturday night.
Now what we require of you, the Rider;
Firstly download (print) the documents regarding the ride or contact the AMP Office in Harvey on 08 9729 2226, then register for the ride, raise sponsorship money, the minimum figures are $100 for a 1 day stage or $200 for multiple stages remeber this is a great cause!Every cent of this sponsorship money will go to the Foundation. If you receive cheques please make sure they are made out to 'The Children's Leukaemia and Cancer Research Foundation Inc (CLCRF).
You will have to pay $10 per day for incidental expenses such as coffee, petrol for support vehicles etc.
Please remember that through out the ride we are being looked after by incredibly generous clubs and individuals. Please be both grateful and polite. We are all trying to help save children’s lives through our efforts.
